Dimensional Thinking & No- Reading 5-360 AV

The "Dimensional Thinking" article provides new insight on interpreting the world beyond our "Flatland" (2-D) thinking. Honestly, many of us are so accustomed to the 2-D set of mind that it would be uncomfortable to dance in space as the author suggests. Dimensional thinking is where we move our information to 2-D to 3-D, since we are used to moving things from 3-D to 2-D to record/memorize/interpret them. I love Bridget Riley's quote: "you have to find ways of converging things such as weight and space convincingly, without relying upon the mere representation of the model to do these things for you. It is not sufficient to depict." This is why we have no true sense of our universe since we have been misled by 2-D photographs that fail "to reconstruct the 3-D reality correctly." I also like the scaling ideas, which allow us to manipulate an interpretation of something. As the author states, "Size and time certainly matter" and it is up to us to experiment what works and what doesn't for our projects because there are many possibilities.

As for the "No- the Art of Space Arrangement" article, I may need some more time with the diagrams! However, I basically found the need to try something different in terms of placement, locations, etc. In modern dance, so many liberties are taken, so I'm not going to say that a central act always takes place in the center as the author states, but I will take into account that this does happen and I just need to be aware of these things in completing my project. We all want to make something fresh and unique, but that requires making sure your ideas come across in a new way.
