Christain Conversion

During the slavery period, whites deemed the African slaves as barbaric, uncivilized and inferior. They exploited their labor and life. However, through out the harsh tyranny of the white people, the African slaves were spiritually superior. When the slaves were brought to America, there were africans from different tribes mixed together. There was no common language but a common dance that they shared through ancestry. And the Africans in America had now begun, what we recall as black dance and can define as African American culture. The Africans may have been thought of as inferior beings than the whites but they were spiritually much higher. They found spirituality through dance. In the Ring Shout dance, the slaves sang spirituals and worshiped by dancing. The dance movements were embedded in their body if not their memory. Different slaves from different tribes brought their diverse movements. It was their greatest spiritual and political resource as well because it was also a form of protest against the slave owners who were unaware of their spiritual practice. Therefore, the slave's dance were compared to sex and their body movements as sexually driven and against the holy christian religion. The whites were unaware due to their own inability to understand the slaves culture.
