Organization of Energies - Allie (Dance 360)

This article left me questioning a few of the author’s ideas about this organization of energies with respect to the esthetic rhythms of a work of art. I found this piece somewhat hard to follow, but I did pull a few things out of it. First, there is a distinction between the art product and the work of art itself. The product cannot exist without the energy that is used to create and give life to the art process. Also, rhythm and perception were major elements of this article. Despite variations in rhythm, it is referred to as having “regularity of recurrence amid changing elements.” This is important since rhythm is a direct matter of perception, dealing with what an individual brings to this process of perceiving. Similarly, when rhythms interact with each other and engage in organic energy, this energy must be consistently organized.

One section that particularly caught my interest in this article was when the author talked about blocking energy rather than challenging it. This included the idea that there are fads and trends in esthetic products which are briefly popularized, but have no way to develop further. I am curious about whether individuals can get stuck in their own trends similar to this. Do we create our own blocking of energies by becoming stuck in a few signature moves that lack developmental potential? And if that’s so, then how can we get away from those “personal fads” and challenge our energy once again?
