Sophia Levine, Dance 360, Lighting Moments 5 and 6

Lighting Moment 5:

As I left the CFA the moisture from the vent caught the light of the lamps along the path. The resulting thick fog was penetrated by a deep black shadow of the pine tree behind the vent. The shadow swayed as the wind and pressure from the vent pushed the fog in different directions.

To recreate this lighting moment, an object behind could be backlit from behind a layer of fog. Though this is a stunning image when it happens on its own, it has the potential to be hokey onstage. I am not quite sure how this could be done without a fog machine, but a more subtle effect that has a similar presence could be really interesting.

Lighting Moment 6:

In the parking lot behind my house there is only one streetlamp. It lights creates a warm yellow wash on only a small triangular patch of the parking lot. The intensity of the different parts of the patch varies based on the shadows of the cars surrounding it.

This effect could be created in a number of ways. Using a high or low cross to create the desired triangle, the light within the triangle could be varied by introducing different colored downpools of light from the grid. For a more literal interpretation, objects could be placed on the stage and lit from different directions to create shadows that would fall on the triangle of light.
